Smile meanings

hi,

could you please tell me if what I wrote about the definition is correct?

Explain the difference between these sentences

1) I installed the new computer yesterday.
-This means I did it myself and not other people.

2) The new computer was installed yesterday
-this means that it does not matter who installed it, only the action is important

3) I had the new computer installed yesterday.
-This means someone else did it for me.

Whats the difference in meaning of Had in these 2 sentences?

a) I had the car serviced yesterday
-This means someone else did it for me.

b) I had the car stolen yesterday.
-This means that my car was stolen but why is it used with Causative Have?

Thank you for your help and patience!!
ana

Your first three analyses are correct.

Yes to a.

b. IMO, that is not quite right. Sometimes you will hear: "I had my car stolen yesterday", meant to mean that somebody stole it. It is not the "causative have" in that case. Because of the possible ambiguity, I would avoid that construction.
