Hi,

In my country, dirty water and trash is thrown through a waste drainage pipe in a kind of giant "liquid garbage" which also holds the rain water.

It's called in Portuguese: "Lagoa de captação" which could mean word by word
"uptake lake" or "capturing lake". Does somoene know the right word in English?

It could be a 'sewage lagoon' if the size is like a lake.

If it's smaller and for an individual house, it would be a 'septic tank' in British English.

Same for North America and NaE, Tdol. It seems that small scale sewage lagoons are used because of certain soil conditions. They don't rely on percolation thru the soil as the cleansing mechanism as a normal septic/field system does.

yes , septic tank is correct for a smaller application. Cess pit or cess pool would be better for a system that is used by more then one hosehold
