Default Contractions

Hi,

We often use contractions while speaking, but is it all right to use them when writing as well?

Hey,

I think that you are not supposed to use contractions in written English (although contractions are somehow cool).

I've always said "Don't use contractions in written English."

...Wait a minute...

(OK, that was a bit of foolishness on my part.)

I'm the author of the article linked above. I'm not a teacher, but I am a professional writer and editor, and the short version is this: There is no reason not to use contractions in written English. See the article for details.
