I agree with Tdol. The problem here is that "most" is one of those words that takes its number from the object of the following preposition or from a previous referent.
One can have most of a single thing or most of several things.
Most of the cake was eaten. (single cake or non-count cake)
Most of the cakes were eaten. (multiple cakes)
