You might be confusing "aplenty" with "plenty of". "Aplenty" is ano older word that has survived. It is a peculiar adjective in English in that it is only used postpositively (after the noun it modifies). "Galore" is another.
There was plenty of food at the party.
There was food aplenty at the party.
There was food galore at the party.
