1.Should salmon be pronounced with a silent "L?"
2.When quoting a sentence, which you have ommitted words from and used the "..." symbol is it okay to use a question mark/exclemation mark after the "...", if the sentence ends in a question mark?
Ex: "He came in the room later...?"
3. What is the grammatically correct spelling of okay? "Okay?" or "O.K."
By the way, did you know this term was derived from the Greek navy during World War I or World War II? It comes from the words "ola kala," which in Greek mean all is well. The sailors used this secret signal to indicate all was well with a particular war plan.

Salmon does not have an el sound in it.

The ellipsis is used to indicate that something has been left out. In this case what would be left out would be the question mark.

Your explanation for the word's etymology is clever, but the word's origin is American, not Greek.

My apologies for getting that one wrong the first time. That question cannot be answered with a yes or no. If the el in salmon were pronounced it wouldn't be silent. As already stated, salmon does not have an el sound in it.

Actually, the word "salmon" is derived from the Latin word "salmo", and in Latin the "L" is pronounced as such. Therefore it would be more accurate to say "salmon" with an L sound.

Also, I lived in Greece for a while and had many people tell me that "O.K." is indefinitely derived from the Greek "ola kala", which indeed does mean "all is well."

In French is it "Saumon", which is closer to the English pronunciation.

The Greeks love to claim this kind of origin [I too have lived there!]. However, it is recorded as being around in the US as early as 1830, so I think the derivation is unlikely.
