i am just wondrin' about this grammar point...

i know that do,did and does always followed by the base form of the verb...

what if?
'what she did (is was)running.'
what is correct?

i hope you could help...

That's different:
(What she did) = subject
What she did was (to) run/running
The three forms are possible, though you example of the gerund suggests to me that she chose an option, like a sport at school- running, not football.

Just a comment. The verb "do" can be a main verb as well as an auxiliary verb. As Tdol indicated, it is main verb in your sentence.
