Default how to make reading interesting?

Hell!
I desperately need your advice on how to motivate students during the reading class. They are adult students who plan to study at colleges in the U.S.A and their reading skills are really low. The biggest problem is that they find it really hard time or boring to memorize words, whcih is essential in promoting their comprehension in the given texts. I am struggling and please if you have any idea on this matter or if you have any suggestions for the class activites/articles, please let me know!!!!!!
