Default Plural or Singular?

If, for example, each student attends a different seminar, which is more appropriate to say using "they" instead of "each student"?

1. They will attend a seminar.
2. They will attend seminars.

What's the difference between these two sentences, if there is any?

Hello, gorikaz,

Number 1 indicates that each student will attend the same seminar.

Number 2 could indicate that every student will attend the same seminars or that each student will attend a different seminar(s). The sentence would need clarification in order to be properly understood.

Regards

To be completely clear:

They each will attend a different seminar.
