    Default control

    Which form is correct?

    1. a) controled
    b)controlled

    2. a) controling
    b) controlling

So, it is double or simple "l"?

    Thanks beforehand!

    It's single "L". Controled, controling.

I think in British English they keep duplicating the final "l", as in "travelling", but they don't do so in American English, so they write "traveling" and "controling". That's what I have been told, but I suppose native speakers know it for sure.

I'm a BE speaker, but I wrote for an American company for nearly 20 years. Ana's right.

Double L in both AmE and BrE.

The reason that AmE doesn't double the L in "traveling" or "traveled" is that the accent is on the first syllable.
