Re: Pronounciation of final ed Hi,
There are three different ways of pronuncing -ed ending and it differs based on a sound right before the -ed ending.
Voiceless sounds makes the -ed sound like /t/ ex. past of 'walk', where 'k' is voiceless, ''walked' sounds /walkt/. Other voiceless sounds, which produce /t/ sounding ending of -ed, are: p, f, th (the voicelss one), ch, sh, s.
There are two voiceless letters, t and d, though, which make the -ed sound like /Id/ with the additional vowel sound, ex. 'started' is pronunced /startId/, where this additional vowel 'I' sounds like the letter 'i' in 'did'. other examples: sounded, intended, etc.
Voiced letters, or sounds, make the ed sound like /d/ ex. showed, where 'w' is voiced, sounds like /showd/.
I hope this helps,
