Exclamation Help Me Please
Can you help me correct this sentance?
Rainsford picked up a sword that was nearby and swung it at General Zaroff. The first time he missed but the second time directly into Zaroff's stomach.

The first sentence is OK. The second sentence should be: His first swing missed, but on the second swing, the sword went directly into Zaroff's stomach.

May I suggest:
I think the wound from "swinging" a sword would be a cut. Perhaps on the second effort the sword "plunged" into his stomach.
