If you give me a check and I take the check to the bank and have the sum mentionned on it credited to my account, have I cashed the check?

Is 'to cash' the verb one would use here? My problem is that there was no cash in the transaction, money went from one account to the other.

If you take a check to the bank and have the money put into your account, you have deposited the check.

If you take it to the bank and they give you money (currency) in exchange, you have cashed the check.
