Default babyno1's question list

today's sentence's in Emerson's "Nature":"But none of the them owns the landscape. There is a property in the horizon which no man has but he whose eye can integrate all the parts, that is, the poet. This is the best part of these men's farms, yet to this their warranty-deeds give no title." What does the last phrase "yet to this their warranty-deeds give no title" mean? Thanks for your help!

Default Re: babyno1's question list

Hello Baby, welcome to Using English!

"Warranty deeds" relates to the documentation that proves who owns the land; to "give title to something" is "to document the ownership of something".

So the sentence means that you can own a piece of land, but you can't own the view.

All the best,

MrP
