The answer to "Why don't you?"

Hello, I'm Yoshio. I have a question.

I know "Why don't you...?" is a very useful phrase when we want to invite somebody to do something.

But I don't know how to say yes to the question.
Would you say just "Yes" or use different phrases?

What are the likely or natural replys to "Why don't you...?"

Usually, it would be some form of:

positive: OK, Good idea, Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that.
negative: I already tried that, Because it won't work, I'll handle this.

We Japanese often say just "yes" in Japanese.
And I don't think we have as many expressions to say yes as you do in English. So if you hear somebody answer only with "Yes", you might have an impression that he or she is very short with you, right?

The underlined part is what I found in my dictionary. Is this correct?
I wanted it to mean that he or she is a bit curt.

I agree. If I offered a "why don't you....", I would expect more than a "yes".
