I was watching The OC on telly today and suddenly I was struck when one of the characters said something like: "ABC invited XYZ and I to the party".

Since there was a discussion here on a similar topic (between you and me) a few days ago, it got me thinking... Is it simply another mistake where a subject is used instead of an object, or is it somehow different from between?

It sounds more natural to me when I say: "invited you" and "invited me" and therefore "invited you and me" than "invited you and I", but correct me if I'm wrong.

It should be "me".

Unfortunately, the error with "between you and I" has become common enough that these other mistakes occur by association.

It's related to the "between you and I" issue in that the error in both cases arises from the same mistaken belief: that "and me" is informal, and "and I" is formal.
