For 'overcast and rainy', we sometimes use the Scottish: driech. (When I say 'we', I may be in something of a minority; but I like the word.)

I believe the original meaning of dreich was long and drawn-out, as we might describe a minister's sermon. It's easy to see how this would evolve to mean dark and miserable, just as the weather is today.

My personal favourite slang term for freezing cold is "Baltic", although a friend went there in the summer and said it was boiling hot.

Baltic should not be confused with boracic = boracic lint = skint = having no money.
