| It's unclear to me because without more context we don't know the power relationship with Suleyman. However, because he was 'magnificent', I'd go for D. |

| B is correct - The Janissaries were taken as children from conquered Christian countries and raised as an elite guard in Constantinople. They eventually became extremely powerful within the Ottoman Empire. |

| For me, B is wrong because the Janissaries did not develop power over the Sultan, they developed power under him. The Sultan was the boss. The first part could be "in" or "from". |

| B cannot be correct choice since Janissaries were the soldiers of Suleiman the Magnificent and couldn't, and did not, have any power over him. :) |
