We wrote for literature on various brands of steel shelving.

what is the meaing of 'steel shelving'? then what is the meaing of this sentence.

They are shelves made out of steel. They are usually used in industrial situations (unlike home bookshelves, which are generally made out of wood) and are heavy-duty, made to hold many hundreds or thousands of pounds of material. The sentence in your example refers to someone who wrote a descriptive brochure for various types of these shelves.
