Default comma

Hi,

could you please tell me whether a comma is used before "if" in sub-ordinate clauses starting with "if"?

Thank you very much.

Hanka

There is no rule for a comma before if, but you may see a comma in that position because of some other rule.

Normally, no.

When an "if" clause begins a sentence it is followed by a comma in most cases. When an "if" clause follows the main clause, it is not usually preceded by a comma.
