Default correct expressions

Hi,

I have several questions concerning the highlighted parts of following sentence:

As far as the initial delay from the airport is concerned, none of us was truly informed about the reasons and expected duration of the delay. Already when I returned the car keys to local car rental, I asked at the Enquiries whether the plane would depart according to the flight schedule. If they informed me about the delay, I would keep the car and we could use the time more purposefully (if only because of the child).

1) truly - is it correctly used meaning "according to the truth"?
2) I know that "already" is not the right expression here, but how can I express that it was "early enough"?
3) Would the "third conditional" be correct here? (If they had informed me, I would have kept)
4) Is purposefully the right expression?

Thank you so much.

Hanka

The first sentence is fine.

The second one I would rephrase "Before I returned the car keys to to the local care rental company, I asked at Enquiries whether the plane would depart according to schedule. If they had informed me of the delay, I could have kept the car and made use of the time (if only because of the child)."
