Default A close shave

Once we read an article called 'A close shave'. Our teacher told us what it means but I don`t know how to use it...in sentences... For example..how can I express that ' he nearly died' there was a close shave???I don`t think it`s right.
Can anyone help?

thanx much;)

"Close shave" has two meanings:
1. I need a close shave (using a razor)
2. Most of them were killed but we had a close shave.

The expression is likely to be used like this:
A: That was a close shave. We passed by there just before lightning hit the tree and the tree fell onto the road.
B: Yeah, that was a close shave. We might have been killed.

They are similar in that both of them refer to narrow escape:
It was a close call we we didn't hit the sharp edge.
