    Smile Is this sentence correct?

Hello, Could you tell if this sentence sounds OK in English?
" I expected/hoped that you had already forgotten about that."

i think "wish" is better, especially when talking about something untrue.

I would not use the word already. Otherwise the sentence is OK.

If the person had a short memory it might make sense to say, 'have you forgotten about that already?' i.e. 'so soon'.

Hoped also indicates more than just 'hope' and in this sense is very similar to expected. It is just a little more polite.

Though the sentance is not wrong, I would change "already" to "by now" e.g. "I hoped that you had, by now, forgotten about that." or better, "I hoped that you had forgotten about that by now."

I also would say "would have" rather than "had" e.g. "I hoped that you would have forgotten about that by now."
