Default Need help on Preposition, thanks teachers!

Do I need to put the preposition "On" in front of " the next day" in the sentence as in:

(On???)The next day, we woke up at 7 and had to get ready for breakfast at 8.

Thanks for advising, teachers! ^o^

When we use 'next' and 'last', we don't need to use a preposition.
