Dear Teacher,
I would like to know the meaning of the phrase, "the same prverbial basket."
I also found the similar idiom-like phraes, "proverbial eggs."
Thank you for your help.
Hi, could you give us a context, please?
There's an old proverb that goes:
"Don't put all your eggs in one basket."
It's a warning. If you're carrying a lot of eggs in one basket and you drop the basket, all your eggs will break; better to have two (or more) baskets, and put a few eggs in each.
The more general meaning is: don't give too much importance to just one thing. For example, if you invest all your money in one company, and the company fails - you lose all your money.
The proverb is so well known and often repeated that an English speaker might say "it's the proverbial egg/basket situation", and most people would know what they meant.
Hi Boothling and Bromba,
Your reply solved my question and thanks a lot!
