Default Do I have a modifier problem in this sentence?

Keeping the status of ‘a law-abiding citizen’, which most people would like to do, also puts the victim at a disadvantage in this game of who strikes first, since citizens are law-abiding on the premise that they don’t fire at a person first unless the person shows a clear intent on causing grave harm to them.
If I do, could you revise it so that it sounds better? as always, I appreciate your work.
