I am sorry. It is "returned". Thanks for the reply.

Ok. What is the difference between the above 2 sentences? Means when to use "has been returned" and when to use "was returned".

What is the meaning of "The cheque is returned unpaid by the bank."?

Regards,

Sweetie.

They both mean the same thing.

If the cheque is returned unpaid it means that it was presented to the bank for payment and the bank would not pay as there was not enough money in the account or it was wrongly completed - e.g. no signature, figures didn't match or some other reason.
