Usage of 'likely'.

I don't know how many usage questions I'm asking today. This sentence sounds OK to my ears, but if I take out the 'hypothetical' part and just say 'here is a very likely example', it sounds strange; and for this reason, I can't figure out whether this simple sentence is correct or not. (Sigh...)

I'm writing my final essay and I'm running into these usage problems every sentence I write. It annoys the h-word out of me.
Help me... (a LONG sigh...)

'Here is a very likely example' sounds fine to me. However, I'd be tempted to use 'but possible' in the hypothetical sentence. ;-)
