I know "Behind the Music" is a movie, but why did the author use it here?

'Behind the music' here means things that are happening in the background that you are unaware of.

it is more common to say 'behind the scenes'; In secret or private, away from public view. It is an analogy which describes various activities that go on behind the curtain in theatres, out of the audience's view.
