If someone is Mike's friend.

This is a friend of Mike OR

This is a friend of Mike's ???

I believe the first example is correct since Mike doesn't own this friend :)

My friend = a friend of mine
Your friend = a friend of yours
Her friend = a friend of hers
His friend = a friend of his
Its friend = a friend of its
Our friend = a friend of ours
Their friend = a friend of theirs

Note the use of the possessive marker -s

Mike's friend = a friend of Mike's

The 'friend' belongs to Mike, as in she or he is Mike's acquaintance, not Mike's property.
