Need help on the use of Preposition again, thx teachers!

Which is correct as in:

Ride on a cable car

or

Ride in a cable car

or

Both are acceptable.

Please explain if both are acceptable, thank you teachers! ^o^

Since it is a kind of trolley, I would say you ride on a cable car.

If you walk on the cable car, then you ride on the cable car; The same holds true for buses and planes. If you want to express that you are sitting in a cable car, bus, plane, then use ride in a cable car, bus, plane. As for cars and taxis, we don't walk on, we crouch down when we get in, so use 'ride in a car, ride in a taxi'. To ride on a car or a taxi means to climb up onto the top of the vehicle. Use 'on' for climbing and 'in' for sitting.
