| I got the following sentence from a grammar book. 'Teenagers often show a reckless disregard to their own safety.' Can we use a singular object when the subject is plural? Also, please give me some more examples of this kind. Thanks, MG. |

| Yes, that's fine (although I'd prefer 'for' rather than 'to'). Teenagers exhibit a (one) certain type of disregard in this case. . . Here are some further examples (I googled them): . Americans share a lack of confidence in the Internet that could have political consequences. . Finally, candidates should demonstrate an interest in participation in the College’s general education offerings. . Doctors of chiropractic have a deep respect for the human body's ability to heal itself without the use of surgery or medication. |
