"They can tease this incredibly prodigious kernel into so many different products "(the context:the guest and the compere are talking about the corn as an important crop in the U.S)
my question:why did the guy use "tease"?

It was a strange choice. One use of "tease" is to carefully separate something into pieces, but "turn" would have been a better choice.
