Default overlap between the present and the future tenses

I understand that we can use the present tense instead of the future tense in some instances but can you tell me whether we can use the future tense instead of the present tense in some instances as well? Can you give me any examples?

If the phone rings and I say that I will answer it, the action is slightly ahead of my words, but I really mean to answer it now. Some might say that this isn't future, though other might argue that the fraction of a second between my words and my action makes it future.

One use of the future tense for present is for current habits.

My wife and I will often go to the mountains in the summertime.

This refers to a present habit, though one can easily see how this is also likely to extend to the future.
