Is Sentence 2 correct? If yes, what's the difference between Sentence 1 and 2? What's the function of "with" in Sentence 1?

b deforestation has resulted in their having noweher else to go
c she gave them to her niece to keep them for her

2 is not wrong, but 'with' gtives the idea that deforestation has produced this result.

3 & 4 are fine

This may be another AmE/BrE difference, but I don't like 3 and 4.

To me, these say the opposite of what is intended. She didn't leave her niece or him. She left the jewels and the guns with people.
