Here next are some questions hovering in my mind:
1: The dictionary tells me that carriage means the passenger car of a train, and it's used in BE, I don't know what do Americans say when it comes to something like that?
2. The differences among Church/ Chapel /Cathedral
3. What is community service? who does this?
4.Culture vulture is a British slang, any counterparts in American english?
A chapel is a church or area of worship. Sometimes it is small and attached to a larger institution (a cathedral or large church, school, hospital, prison, airport etc). You can find small chapels inside churches and cathedrals, sometimes dedicated to the family that paid for their construction.
A church is a place of public (usually Christian) worship, usually larger than a chapel. The term "church" also refers to an organisation of people who share the same beliefs (eg the Catholic church).
A cathedral is a really big church, and usually the main church in a particular diocese. All cities in England have a cathedral, whereas smaller towns don't.

"Community service" - a form of punishment applied by the courts for anti-social offences. The offender will be required to do menial tasks within the community such as picking up litter, street-sweeping and so-on. Some charities will also use them, taking out trash, cleaning, tidying up generally.
Re:
4.Culture vulture is a British slang, any counterparts in American english?Say:
"Culture vulture is British slang" or "Culture vulture is a British slang term."(I am not familiar with that term.)

Culture Vulture is used to describe someone who has a keen interest in the arts or classics.
also to add to this. Some States in the united states require high school student to complete a certain amount of community service hours to graduate. also some relegious oraganizations have community service that their members can volunteer for.
Example: volunteering at a soup kitchen to help feed the needy.
Community Servicce isnt just for bad people. good people do it to feel good or help someone in need, or they do it because its required for graduation, a crime they commit, or just to help people who need it.
thank you guys!
