What does "D" stand for?

Could someone please explain me what "Let's play some D" means,
what "D" stand for and where this expression come from?

In America, it mean defense. It comes from basketball, your team has to stop the other team from scoring goals (defense) as well as making their own goals (offense). "Let's play some D," means get tougher on your defensive plays.
