Question What does payoff mean in this paragraph.

Here next is paragraph given by my friend, I want to know what PAYOFF means in this para.

The payoff? For the schools, it’s publicity, prestige and sometimes the revenue that big-time sports bring in. For then players, it’s the free education, the campus stardom, the fulfillment of a childhood dream, the chance to break into pro sports.

Payoff means "final settlement, results". In this case, the results are good, so it means "benefits(s)".
