Hi,
Yesterday, I read a article, there is a sentence like this, ' The university appealed for money to purchase more advanced teaching equipment', to my mind 'equipment' can be insteaded with 'appliance', can I do so?
Thanks!
Ian
Thanks, Mike. it is more clear now.
For example, TV, microwave oven can be called 'appliance'. and prejection devices are called 'equipments', am i right?
Ian
Yes, I mean projectors, thanks for your correction.
Incidentally, 'to instead' is an interesting verb, and we know what you mean, but it's not a word I've ever heard used by a native speaker. What you mean is either 'can be used instead' or 'can replace' or 'can be used to replace' - lots of options, but not 'can be insteaded'

Thanks for your friendly reminding, Bob, could I use reminding here?
Regards!
Ian
