Sh... I am sitting CPE the day after tomorrow and it looks like I can't paraphrase. Here comes the sentence:

The audience suddenly started to applaud loudly.

sudden

All.....................................from the audience.
my version: All sudden applause came from the audience.

Correct: All of a sudden there was a loud applause from the audience.

Fine. It looks like I missed the point: it was the information about what happened not where the applause came from. Otherwise it would have been correct like "All this sudden noise was made by people fighting in front of the pub"?

"All of a sudden" is a replacement for "suddenly". It is just another way of saying it.
