Question Using ellipsis in academic writing

"Let x1,...,xn be a random sample from distribution A; Y1,...,Ym, from distribution B."

The above sentence stands for,
"Let x1,...,xn be a random sample from distribution A; let Y1,...,Ym be a random sample from distribution B."

Do you think such a use of ellipsis is permissible in academic writing?

Best,
Nyggus

In set theory, this is an accepted and common way of defining a set.
