Is my sentence wrong or right?

At first, the Romanies has brought us a magnet and then, a corpulent Roma with a thick beard and thin fingers, which were twisted as a small bird's paw, and called himself as Melk(? - or -c)iades, was brilliantly demonstrating to all the spectators this, as he said, the eight miracle of the world, created by alchemists of Macedonia.

Is in names 'Macedonia' and 'Melciades' do we write letter -c or -k?

I know that phonetically, in front of the letter 'i', the letter 'c' should be sound like a sound [s], not [k]. What's wrong? Or, it's normally in names like this.

I think the word Macedonia is written correctly and as far as I remember the letter [c] is pronounced [si].
