Default prepositions before home!

I have often noticed that we don’t usually use a preposition before the word ‘home’, as in the sentence “ I am going home.”. Could someone please a grammatical reasoning of this omission?

It isn't an omission. "Home" is an adverb in that use.

So, is it correct to say " I am going to home.", when I want to use it as a noun?

No, not really. One could say I am going to my home/house, but "going home" is more natural.

Prepositions originally refer to place and direction that's why they are called pre-positions and as already said home as an adverb of place doesn't really need to even if it is used as a noun since it refers to place inherently. In additon, the word home is a word of high frequency so that idiomatic expressions like go home are coined. Although we use go to there is for example no go to shopping.

As far as I know, "preposition" comes from Latin "place before" and it refers to their position before nouns. The same is true with prepositive and postpositive. We don't say "go to shopping" but we do say "go to shops/a shop".

By "not really", do you mean that it's marginally acceptable to and not completely incorrect to say "to home"?

No, not really. He means it is not used. I daresay that no native speaker would ever say go to home. He might, for example, say, "I want to go home", but he would not say, "I want to go to home".
A: Do you want to go home?
B: Yes, I want to go home.
A: OK, let's go home.
