Dear Sir or Madame,

I am interested in Astronomy very much, particularly I am interested in the Planet Mars. I read something about "Mars Exploration Rover", a mission to Mars by NASA. In that site I found a page which describes the different phases of the mission. A phase is called "Impact to Egress" (literally it is the period of time between the landing and the exploration of Mars by the Rover). Do you think this sentence has a particular meaning or you can consider every word separately?

I would be most grateful if you could tell me something about this.

The "Impact to Egress" phase is when the probe made contact with the Mars surface.

Impact to Egress
Even after the landers and airbags safely bounce to a complete stop on Mars, the challenges of getting to Mars continue. It will take each rover a minimum of nine days to emerge from its lander cocoon, stand up, orient itself, safely unlock its body from the lander, and roll down to the martian ground. In this last episode of the Challenges of Getting to Mars video series, the rover team describes the Impact to Egress phase of getting six wheels on the surface.

I think impact to egress is as described. It is the phase which begins when the craft lands, or 'impacts', and ends when the rover is out and operating.
