    hi, the problem is:
    '(...) fulfills (a or the or space:) ) primary assumption'. What to put in, the or a or nothing. Please justify.

    It would be the primary assumption because there can only be one primary assumption. The other assumptions would be secondary, tertiary, etc.

    When primary is used as a synonym for basic.

    Then "a primary need" is OK isn't it ?
