'Youths' can sound negative, so why not 'young people'
'Some substances and drugs have adverse effects on growing children.'
I think that this sentence works.
How about the following one?
'Some substances and drugs have adverse effects on growing youths.'
I'm not sure exactly how old 'children' and 'youths' are,
but I guess 'youths' are older than 'children'.
Also, how about the following?
'Some substances and drugs have adverse effects on those(or 'youths') in the growing period.'
If there are any other useful expressions regarding this,
please let me know.
'Youths' can sound negative, so why not 'young people'
Tdol, thank you for your reply.
I'd like to ask another question.
There is a period in which children get taller rapidly.
Some of them grow several inches in a year when they are from 15 to 18 years old.
Is there any word for the specific period?![]()
Adolescence ?is there any word for the specific period?
We talk of a growth spurt: growth spurt - Google Search
Tdol, thank you.
'Growth spurt' is the word I've been seraching for.
How about the following example? Does it work?
'Some drugs have adverse effects on children ( during OR undergoing ) their growth spurts. For example, steroids lower their bone density.'
The phrase growing children is idiomatic, but I wouldn't use growing youths or growing adolescents. You can say for people undergoing growth spurts, but I don't know how you can know about such a thing except in retrospect.
