Dear Teacher

I wish the party would last longer.

I wish the party lasted longer.

Are both sentences correct? If so, what is the difference in meaning?

The first is correct. The party is still going strong.

The second is correct. The party is still going strong.

The second could be: I wish the party had lasted longer. The party has already ended.
