Default Which sentence is correct?

Dear Teacher

1. Did you try this one?

2. Have you tried this one?

I believe both sentences have the same meaning. I believe the first sentence is AmE, while the second is BrE. Am I correct?

#1 might be said in Britain, too. It depends on the context.
