| Enfeebled is stronger- if you're enfeebled, you're powerless. The Himalyas is a region, so 'in' is the appropriate preposition- we're thinking of it being in the area, not on a mountain. 'Long been' is wrong- 'been' shouldn't be there. |

| how do you know whether the author is refering to the region or the mountain? |

| The Himalayas is a mountain range, so it would always be a region. You'd be on a mountain in the Himalayas. |
