Default work day lost

1.("Depression accounts for more work days lost than any other disease," said Carol Shively, the study's lead author and a professor of pathology at Wake Forest University.)

what does "work day lost" , esp. "lost" mean?

2.(Veterinarians and scientists who work with the monkeys have long reported anecdotal evidence of depression-like behavior.)

Is "reported" used as a verb or adj.? And does "anecdotal" mean "interesting" here?

Work days are lost in the sense that people could not go to
work on those days that they were depressed.

Yes, "reported" is used as a verb. An "anecdote" is a short or interesting
account of an incident. "Anecdotal" means "containing anecdotes, or pertaining to anecdotes".

"have long reported"--- if "reported" is a verb here, then "have reported" is "present perfect tense", right? Then what does "long" mean"? Does it mean "long ago"?

Yes, you are right. It is "present perfect tense."

"Long" means "for a long time."
